We’re all going on a summer holiday…

…or are we?

It’s that time of year – the sun’s making guest appearances, the BBQs are out, and thoughts naturally turn to our summer holidays.

It should be a time to relax and unwind. However the build up can be stressful particularly if you are separated from the parent of your children.

In order to prevent unnecessary stress, we would advise taking the following steps as early as possible:Make arrangements with your former partner or spouse as soon as possible – what are the overall plans for the children over the summer holidays?Make sure you have obtained consent to taking your children away and the dates in question (including having consent forms signed where necessary)Make sure you know where their passports are, if they are still in date and whether the other parent will give them to you.Make sure you inform the other parent where you are taking the children – providing the address and a telephone number.

The above should hopefully limit stress in the build up to your holiday allowing you and your children to enjoy a well earned break.

However, if for example, you are struggling to reach an agreement, your children’s passports are not forthcoming or there is an Order in place, it is important to take legal advice as soon as possible so that action can be taken in a timely fashion.
