Matthew joined the firm in November 2023. Matthew advises on estate planning solutions including Wills and trusts, Lasting Powers of Attorney, mental capacity concerns, the Court of Protection, and the administration of estates.

Qualifications and Professional Memberships

  • BSc in Management Sciences (2:2), Warwick University, 1997
  • LLB, Law Degree (1st class), University of Law, Guildford, 2010
  • Admitted as a solicitor, March 2013
  • Full Accredited Member of Solicitors for the Elderly
  • Trained as a Dementia Friend, an initiative advanced by the Alzheimer’s Society to assist those struggling with Dementia.

Experience and Expertise

  • Worked for 12 years in the education sector as an IT consultant visiting schools across the UK before training as a solicitor.
  • over 10 years’ experience as a solicitor.
  • Advising on a range of estate planning solutions from simple Wills to the use of trusts that can save inheritance tax, protect assets, or where appropriate plan for future care fees.
  • Advising on the preparation and use of Lasting Powers of Attorney and General or Specific Powers of Attorney.
  • Registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney and advising as to their use thereafter.
  • Assisting clients with all aspects of non-contentious Court of Protection applications, including Deputyship applications.
  • Advising and assisting in relation to all aspects of estate administration including death notification, dealing with HMRC and inheritance tax, obtaining grants of representation whether Probate (where there is a Will) or Letters of Administration (where there is no Will and the Intestacy Rules apply) , gathering assets post grant and effecting distributions to beneficiaries.
  • Providing advice on post death tax planning and Deeds of Variation.
  • Preparation of Declarations of Trust for co-owners of property.
